Optimizing SEO Strategy for the YouTube Channel

As the Content Designer, I was responsible for optimizing the SEO strategy, developing and implementing a content strategy that aligns with audience preferences, and raising engagement metrics.

INTRODUCTION

In 2014, my passion for scrapbooking and crafting photo albums grew from amateur attempts to create something beautiful into a small business and offline workshops, where I could share my creative process with others. In the following year, as my love for this craft flourished, I decided to extend my reach globally. I transitioned from offline workshops to the digital space, launching a YouTube channel to share my knowledge and techniques with a wider audience.

 

At the beginning of 2015, I took on the challenge of increasing my YouTube channel's subscribers and views to elevate the popularity of scrapbooking on a broader scale. In this case study, I will review my channel optimization strategy that helped scale the channel from 0 to over 60,000 subscribers and over 4.7 million views in total.

Problem Statement

The channel’s videos did not appear frequently in search results or recommended sections, limiting organic reach and discoverability. The channel's subscriber count showed minimal growth and interaction metrics, such as likes, comments, and shares, remained stagnant.

My Goals

  • Enhance SEO practices and algorithmic strategies to increase the channel’s visibility and organic reach;
  • Develop and implement a content strategy that aligns with audience preferences and trends;
  • Raise engagement metrics and boost average views per video.
